The USF College of Public Health hosted two 25th anniversary events at the annual Florida Public Health meeting in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on August 5th.Dr. Donna Petersen was the keynote speaker at the annual College of Public Health luncheon where the event opened with the video about COPH’s 25th year celebration, which can be found on our website at: http://www.health.usf.edu/publichealth/25thAnniversary/. Dr. Petersen spoke about reviewing the future of public health using articles from recent newspapers, and stressing how much there was still to do. She finished by congratulating UF for their recent accreditation and by welcoming all other schools of public health in Florida to our collaborative efforts to positively affect
health in Florida.
USF COPH also hosted a 25th anniversary reception on August 5th in the early evening.Dr. Mike Reed hosted this reception and welcomed current faculty, staff, alumni, and friends. He then turned the stage over to Mary Peoples- Sheps, Senior Associate Dean for Public Health, College of Public Health and Health Professions, University of Florida, who presented a beautiful plaque to the college in honor of our 25th anniversary and for all the support they have gotten from us in working towards accreditation. She noted that in many states colleges of Public Health are not supportive of each other and the atmosphere here is terrific. She presented the plaque to Dr. Charlie Mahan, who accepted the plaque on behalf of Dean Petersen who could not be present.
